Digitimes reports that both iPad 3 and iPhone 5 will hit the market in October. Rumors of two different kinds of iPhone 5, one being for the cheaper markets, have been reverted. There will only be one new iPhone 5 with magnesium alloy based casing, bigger Retina Display with 1104×730 resolution, and A5 processor. Apple has begun commissioning parts for the iPad 3 and iPhone 5.
iPad 3 will undoubtedly be thinner and lighter. The resolution of the display is said to be 250dpi. All rumors seem to agree on one thing. There will be edge to edge glass AMOLED display. It may be 3D screen or a Retina Display. iPad 3 picture is artist’s interpretation of 3D concept of iPad 3.
iPad is a never ending success story. 14 months since the release of the first generation iPad, Apple still dominates tablet market. According to comScore, Apple enjoys 97% share of tablet traffic in the US and 89% globally. In Q3 there are to be 15 million iPad units shipped. 12 million of these are to be iPad 2. In 2011 there will be 40 million iPad units sold, according to the estimates. With over 100k apps available there is yet to be a competitor(s) that will dent or nick Apples tablet market share.
Here are some manufacturers involved with making iPad 3 and iPhone 5.
The involved supply chain partners include Apple’s long-time manufacturing buddy Foxconn plus component suppliers Simplo Technologies and Dynapack International Technology (batteries), TPK Holding and Wintek (touch panel modules), Catcher (chassis) and Largan Precision (webcams). A previous DigiTimes report asserted that Largan Precision could also become a principal supplier of eight-megapixel camera lens modules for Apple. The publication also reported in June that both OmniVision and Sony will supply Apple with eight-megapixel CMOS image sensors, presumably for a fifth-generation iPhone.
