According to recent surveys that was done by Distimo, the majority of Android Apps are more consumer friendly since most of them are free compared to the ratio of free to paid apps in the Apple App store. According to the survey, Android has, more than a hundred items available for free with Apple only a few thousand apps apart. As of march 2011, Apple’s App Store has started to slow down but since it was the first of its kind and it has been present for a year already, it still has the most vibrant selection of applications. It is actually reaching the 400,000 milestone. However, that won’t be the case in the next few months as Android is expected to explode with more apps in the following months.
Looking at the iPad app submissions, it has grown considerably at around 12%. The average daily revenue is a whopping $400,000. Of course, this is also partly due to the price that you have to pay for the larger screen and resolution demands. In another side note, Blackberry will most likely overtake Nokia OVI in the next few months as said by Distimo.
There are some important things you need to know about the Apple apps and Android apps. Even if Android seems to be on par with the free app race, there are tons of apps for the iOS that are paid and they are still selling since the software offered by Apple is superior. If you are using an iPhone or an iPod Touch, you will most likely pay a certain premium for the apps that you can use compared to the ones using Android. This is so true in the games department. The new dimension for gaming will definitely take a piece of the thunder from Nintendo and Sony.
Right now, this study is looking more in favor of Apple since they are earning much more and they still have a lot more to offer even if you combine all the other apps from Android and the others. Last February, Apple paid a whopping 2 billion dollars to the app developers and that is just after the 30% cut on the sales. It can be stated that part of the blame on Android is on poor sales performance. Android may be a decent software but that is what it is all about, it is not superior.
