Many people use Gmail as their primary email client. However, due to compatibility issues, users of the iPhone have had difficulty accessing their Gmail through their mobile phones. As a remedy for this situation, Google finally released a Gmail client. The app was designed to allow Gmail to function fully in Apple devices. However, this release was short lived. The app was pulled less than a day following its release after users who downloaded the app started flooding help boards with reported problems.
When users tried using the Gmail app, they received a warning that stated ìn a valid apps-environment entitlement string found for applications. Sadly, this was not the only issue with the newly release Gmail app. Many found the app unresponsive and freezing up. They also found it difficult to scroll through the screen. Still others complained that they could not have more than one inbox with this app.
Google made a public statement in a blog post reporting the removal of the Gmail app. They explained it had a bug which caused a plethora of issues to occur. Google promised that they were not abandoning the idea for this much needed app. Rather they were working on a fix to the Gmail app so that it could be fully functional hopefully in the near future. Google did say if the app was already downloaded it could be used if no problems were presented.
Unfortunately, this is not a new experience for Google. Previously in the month they had to remove another iPhone app they had created. This app was the Google Voice app. This app was crashing repeatedly when using in iOS 5. Many people hope that now another failed attempt at producing an iPhone app doesn’t cause Google to abandon the idea entirely. Many people want access to Google tools but do not want to have to go with Android to get them.
