I am myself to blame for this and I really feel like asking for my 30 dollars back. When Apple showed-off the “iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter†at the launch of iPad, I was thrilled and exited to know that finally I can leave my laptop at home for vacations as iPad would allow me to take my iTunes media library with me everywhere I go. Well, it appears that although you can watch videos via the cable, you cannot view any content purchased via iTunes or something that is locked with Apple’s Fairplay copy protection scheme.
This means that the encoded videos would play without a hitch, but not any iTunes content. There is an exception though – free content distributed through iTunes would play without a problem.
App that makes the most of this accessory is the Keynote app which displays the presentations on the monitor and at the same time, turns the iPad into a laser pointer. So whenever you touch the display, a red dot is displayed which is great when you want to point at something.
So what else I did not like about it?
- Well, I think that at 10-inches, it is too short for me.
- It blocks the dock connector port which prevents us to to use its high-quality output
- Works with only certain apps and those apps include NetFlix, YouTube, Photos, Videos and Keynote. Nothing else
- Does not works with Safari web-browser
