ZAGGfolio iPad 2 case and keyboard

The ZAGG ZAGGFolio for the iPad 2 has a rugged feel to it. The case is hard plastic, covered with a black carbon-fiber fabric material, all very solid. The ZAGGfolio is aimed at those wanting good protection of their iPad.

This extra protection comes at the cost of more size and weight for your iPad – but for people needing frequent access to a keyboard with more protection than the average iPad case, the ZAGG ZAGGFolio is head and shoulders above the competition.

The thick plastic case covers the entire surface of the iPad 2 when the ZAGGfolio is closed, and there are cutouts for all of the iPad’s sockets and switches. Magnets in the case give Smart Cover instant on-off support . Instead of hinges or straps, the ZAGGfolio has a fixed clasp to fasten the case and a two-piece back behind the iPad to allow it to be tilted for keyboard use. The lack of any moving parts should make this a very durable device. Part of the thick, flexible carbon-fiber cloth cover acts as a hinge. The ZAGGfolio features rubber spacers and microfiber lining throughout to prevent damage to your iPad. And it’s compatible with sundry other cases and covers. So the right side of the iPad slides into a pair of plastic clips; these hold it securely , while the left side is free to be tilted into place when you want to use it with the keyboard. Let us take a look at some ZAGGfolio pictures:

Even typing with the iPad perched on your lap, the whole shebang feels reassuringly solid. And that extra weight suddenly becomes a positive thing, in that it gives the rig stability. But the ZAGGFolio is versatile enough that you can simply place the iPad 2 in the keyboard’s docking groove to hold it upright, or you can remove both iPad 2 and keyboard from the case and use them that way.

Without the iPad 2 the ZAGGfolio functions OK as a keyboard case, Without the iPad 2 the ZAGGfolio functions OK as a keyboard case, but in general the ZAGGfolio functions best as was intended, holding both devices. When used properly the ZAGGfolio is excellent. The instant-on feature is very useful.

The keyboard is the best part of the ZAGGfolio. It’s bigger than most portable add-on keyboards, making it far easier to type on. The extra width of the keyboard allows for more space between keys, which helps accuracy, even though the keys themselves are smallish.

The versatility of the ZAGGFolio’s keyboard is its strongest point – when removed, it transformed into an ultra-thin ultra-light typing console which can be used in a variety of ways; for instance the iPad itself can then be placed in either portrait or landscape mode for viewing your work. This versatility means you can use the ZAGGFolio in conjunction with other iPad accessories such as the Smart Cover, which you might use to protect the screen or even as another stand. Four rubber feet ensure the keyboard won’t slip, in fact the stand-alone characteristics, plus general build excellence of the keyboard means ZAGG will soon be selling it independently of the ZAGGFolio. It will be marketed as the ZAGGFolio.

The ZAGGFolio case sells for $99.99. The SOLO sells at $69. 99 The SOLO will be available in silver, as with the ZAGGfolio’s model, and also in black or white.
